Whether pro-life or pro-choice, every elected representative of our State and Federal governments must be cognizant of the extent abortion impacts the election-day decision of the American voter. Abortion affected election results in 2020, in 2022, and will in 2024. The calamitous situation along our borders and the unrelenting inflation will not overcome the impact many voters feel regarding the effect of abortion on their own personal daily living. And for Republicans, the impact is believed to be highly negative.
Most Republican leaders seek to save the lives of the unprotected baby residing within the womb of the American woman. We need to support their intentions but not so readily support every one of their actions. Some Republicans, wrongly believing compromise will please a skeptical American public, are seeking to establish agreement regarding a specific time at which an abortion can be lawfully consummated. Their intent may be noteworthy but the product is not, and was certainly not on Alito’s mind when he penned the decision in Dobbs v Jackson. Compromise which benefits the lives of some while sacrificing (knowingly) the lives of those not yet able to satisfy the randomly selected target is un-American and tragic. The Republicans need (and now) a path to pro-life that demonstrates love and respect to both participants in the abortion drama.
We need to bring facts, strongly and clearly enunciated facts, to every abortion decision. For example, describing the living being within the womb as pregnancy tissue or as the uterine lining and pregnancy fails the “facts only” test. Every woman considering an abortion should be lawfully allowed to make the final decision regarding the living being within her womb but only after being fully informed regarding the potential human life-denying consequences of her decision and the realistic opportunity to bring the unwanted child (if unwanted by her) to fruition for another or others to save and raise.
